We had another successful e-meeting today via Zoom. People are getting more comfortable with the new format. We had more attendees than when we were meeting in person. We saw Larry Frazier again and were joined by Bill Flynn as well. District Governor Elect Marc Glass did not exercise his powers before the meeting started, allowing a lot of cross talk among members. We heard people talking on their phones, so maybe the writer teased him too much last week. He could have muted a few people today! J

President Bob started the meeting by trying to resume our normal structure. He led the pledge of allegiance to a flag he had displayed behind him. Anwar Hossain then provided the invocation, talking about the ways that the human race is being tested. The virus is a great equalizer, effecting all races, nations, religious beliefs, political position, or social status.

Announcements

·         Veterans Memorial Clubhouse is officially closed through the end of May. Meetings will continue on Zoom until at least that date.

·         Checks have gone out as discussed last week

·         The Police Department indicated it would be better to receive funds, as they have sources to purchase PPE

·         Marc Glass will be scheduling incoming Rotary International President Holgar Knaack to join one of our meetings.

·         Anwar will be trying to find speakers for our online meetings

·         Debby Wood has returned home from the hospital and is receiving nursing care

Other items of interest include:

·         Marc Glass reporting that RI is looking into waiving dues for next year due to the virus.

·         Sue Klock attended a meeting about district grants and mentioned that our district could apply for a special $25,000 grant.  Marc Glass is working on applying for our district. This would be for Covid-19 related activities.

·         Larry Hangland reported that we have 5 applications so far for the club scholarships that we distribute each year. President Bob will reach out to Rachel Buck to see if any more might be coming in. Ruth reported that they had received 22 applications through the Women’s club and will look into forwarding Rotary application information to those students.

·         Happy Jack Martin reported he has not collected a single dollar for either fines or raffle tickets so far this month. He expects $10 from everyone once we return to in person meetings.

·         Bill Saunders suggested for the board to discuss options for the raffle and for the golf tournament. This generated a lot of discussion about options and what might happen with the virus. We currently have September 21 reserved for the tournament, but we will have to re-evaluate in a few weeks if it will still be an option.

·         Monday Night Marc Glass will host a virtual Happy Hour. Zoom invitations to follow.
