Jim Watts, our Paul Harris Fellow Committee Chairman, announced the Club's nominations for this year's Paul Harris Fellow Recognition upcoming in March.  East Hartford Rotarians Chuck Clarke, Mo Moshovos, and Sheryl O'Connor will be honored at our annual Paul Harris Dinner along with Rachel Buck, who is our Interact Club Faculty Advisor at the International Baccalaureate Academy.

The nominations are traditionally made at our Holiday Dinner and this year was no exception. According to the Rotary Foundation, the designation Paul Harris Fellow is given "in appreciation to tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world." Our Club uses the honor to recognize those who have made significant and consistent contributions to our Club and to our community. Each of these nominees has an outstanding record of club and community service spanning many years.

Chuck Clarke joined East Hartford Rotary on June 7, 1995 and was sponsored by Herb Tischofer. He is retired from the Hartford Insurance Group and works part time at Desopo Funeral Home. Among his many contributions to the club over the years, he runs our Koats for Kids program and actively "rings the bell" for our Salvation Army Holiday crew. In addition, he is an active member of the Town of East Hartford Patriotic Commission and plants hundreds of flags each year to honor our veterans. He and his wife Esther live on Langford Lane in East Hartford.

Mo Moshovos was sponsored for the Club by Rich O'Brien, and joined on June 25, 1969. For 42 years, Mo has been devoted to the work of Rotary and for many years he served as the Club Photographer. Mo's career has been focused on Real Estate Services for the most part although he spent time as part owner of the Horseless Carriage Restaurant on Connecticut Blvd. Mo is an avid cook and he has regularly contributed to our gourmet cooking events. Mo's beloved wife, Lucy, passed away some years ago and he currently makes his home on Primrose Drive in East Hartford.

Sheryl O'Connor is President Elect of our club and has been a Rotarian since January 15, 2007. During these brief five years, Sheryl has been engaged in all aspects of the Club including terms as Treasurer and Sgt. At Arms Director. In addition, Sheryl has been the major force behind both our club website and the District 7890 website. Sheryl's husband and business partner, John, is a member of the South Windsor Rotary Club. Sheryl is a principal with 3D Asset Management on Founders Plaza and resides with John on Oakwood Drive in South Windsor.

Rachel Buck is a teacher at CIBA where she has served as faculty advisor to our Interact Club since its inception. She has overseen many community and school projects carried out by the group. Rachel's Paul Harris Award is sponsored by a joint contribution to the Rotary Foundation from the Hartford Rotary Club in recognition of their 90th Anniversary and their sponsorship of our Club in 1928 and a matching contribution from our club.

The Paul Harris Dinner at which the honors will be bestowed is scheduled for March 28, 2012.
