High Gear – Wednesday September 10, 2025
Goodwin University, 417 Main St., East Hartford, CT

Noon—President Rob rang the big bell, calling us to some semblance of order. He led us in the pledge and Rotary’s 4-way test. Ceil Collins delivered the invocation including among other advice to have the wisdom to trust our feelings and to avoid walking away from doing the right thing.

Rob introduced our guest, Janette Hernandez, the Community Outreach Liaison for ABA Centers of Connecticut. Stay tuned for more about her – she is today’s featured speaker.

Thanks again to Guy we had an interesting mix of options for lunch. It included chicken marengo, a pizza with hamburger topping, and eggplant rollatini.

After lunch, inspired by a fun day Monday playing golf with Marc, John and Jim at Goodwin’s Golf Tournament, Rob led with a trivia contest featuring golf tidbits. You really had to be a golfer to join those shouting out answers.

Moving along, Rob re-introduced Janette Hernandea, who represents ABA Centers of Connecticut, an organization dedicated to helping families with autistic children, individuals ranging in age from 3 to 22. Though ABA is well established in more than half the states in our country, it’s just starting operations in Connecticut. Within a year, they hope to have two major centers in our state, including one in Glastonbury which should open by next fall. Right now, they are limited to helping families whose private insurance will cover costs of therapy. For more information, please visit their website, www.abacenterct.com or feel free to contact Janette via email (jhernandez@abacenters,com) or her cell (774) 704-4274.

After an informative Q&A, Rob thanked Janette for her excellent presentation.

Rob mentioned that he has purchased gift cards for the 30th annual senior picnic to be held at Goodinw’s 3 Pent Road building. They will be distributed by raffle.

Then we moved on to the Catch the Ace of Spades game. The winning ticket was revealed, Jim Watts held it, but his chance to finally bring this game to an end was postponed a week, when our ever-reliable treasurer, George, shared that he had left the few cards remaining at home.

Sue H Klock, High Gear editor for this week.
