What a difference in weather. Last week was cold and dank. Today was bright, sunny, almost golf weather ( except for the temp.)

 

All were in good spirits. Mary Martin is continuing her cleanup of the storage room. As such the excess bottles of alcohol were put out.  Anyone could make a donation of whatever amount and take some home.

 

Marc rang the bell with gusto and everyone ran IMMEDIATELY to their seats.

 

Janice Freschlin and Anwar Hossain kind of sang the welcoming song. (Art you were missed.)  President Marc asked for a minute of silence in remembrance of the Paris attack.  Lunch was a tasty meal of mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, turkey, stuffing and salad with apple pie for dessert.  (Just a note - 46 million turkeys are sold for Thanksgiving). The club lost a dollar today.  Steve Jacoby was not only on time but early.

 

Sgt at Arms. Ned Lynch owns the same chicken I do.  It walks across the page and calls it writing. So here goes:

Nov 23rd Meeting will have a wine and cheese time before regular meeting, starting at 11:30 a.m.

 

Dec 2.  Pot luck dinner at Dan Russell’s, 118 Oak Street, East Hartford, in place of noon meeting.  Marc Glass will bring meat.  Please bring a side dish (see email sent out by Ceil Collins.)

 

Dec 5  Herb Barall will present the Circle of Life presentation again this year and is looking for volunteers.

 

Gil Wishart is looking for help this year for the Rotary baseball night.  There are some problems with Yard Goat Arena so more than likely it will be at New Britain Stadium.

 

Dec 16th  Holiday party at the Gallery in Glastonbury.

 

April 29  District Conference in Hyannis MA.

 

Marc Glass said the social at Adams Mill was very successful.  62 members were there from area clubs, including a good turnout from East Hartford.

 

We had two guests today, Kyong Wilson, District Governor and Nancy Wyman, Lieutenant Governor of the State of Connecticut.

 

Mrs Wyman spoke about Connecticut in general and the successes made in the state.

 

    The increase in the graduation rate of high schoolers.

 

    The STEM program and she stated that those who finish this program are indeed a step up on other students.

    A program to end homelessness among veterans.

 

    Cutbacks in state employment due mostly to attrition and the $350 million state imbalance in the budget which will require compromise from both parties.

 

    A 2nd Generation project that will help educate parents to enable them to help their children.

 

    The Affordable Health Care Act and open enrollment is bringing down the number of uninsured.

 

Mrs Wyman did go into the tough times Connecticut is going through but said we are coming along with good programs and will see results.

 

ur District Governor, Kyong Wilson talked for a short time thanking East Hartford Rotary and donated two theater tickets for a second raffle prize.  Hope Firestone won the cash raffle. The District Governor also praised Sue Klock and her very prestigious Rotary recognition. DG Kyong also told us that the Leadership Institute is misnamed.  It is really open to all who want a better understanding of the workings of Rotary.
