 12:05 PM - Guy announces lunch from Romas – cheese Pizza and 3 grinders- Pastrami, Veggie and Meatball

 

12:20 PM - Let's start off with FUN……Bob gave Rotary Trivia!

  1. When did women first join Rotary?  The first women joined Rotary in 1987. Sue guessed
    1. Noye Barbera Benson was the first women to join our club

  2. What does the plus in our Rotary PolioPlus campaign stand for?  Providing vitamin A supplements during polio immunization has averted an estimated 1.5 million childhood deaths since 1998 – the "plus" in PolioPlus.

  3. What is the fifth Rotary test?  Is It Fun?

 

12:25pm – Sue Klock led the “Dictionary book plates project” this week ensuring that the 4th and 6th grade students have a Dictionary or a Thesaurus at their disposal courtesy of the Club! The club worked diligently to get the items packed and soon to be delivered as only a Rotary club can do.

 

Other Business Reports** Rob gave report

  • We were in the EH Gazette for the Anne B Clark donation

  • George and I met with the Food Bank reps for pics and our donation of $1,000 each

  • Salvation Army - bell-ringing, Jack will be working out schedule

  • Golf Club Committee - help Bob

  • Board Meeting next Wed, 12/11 at 10:45am

  • Dec 18:  Holiday Party - Wethersfield Country Club

12:50 PM - Raffle done with over $200 in the pot. I missed who won.

12:55 PM - Caring Moments – Bob B mentioned Ruthie Sheehan was home from the hospital and I’m sure could use a call or a message to warm her spirits. Also, Dan & Dorthy Larson share a wedding anniversary in December. Congrats to them both 😊

01:05 PM    - Rob rung the bell to let the masses return to the frigid artic air!

Welcome Rotarians on this dreary December Wednesday that had clouds and rain in the forecast and temps in the 50’s. We had 11 members in person and 1 Zoomers today.

 

Start Bell: Bell rung at 12:00 sharp

Pledge: Lead by President Rob

4 Way Test: All members

Invocation: Anwar – gave an uplifting holiday message and a wish for Health, safety and caring during this holiday season.

Intro of guests:

Break for Lunch- Food served from Roma’s was – 2 pizzas- cheese and veggie, 3 grinders, Eggplant, turkey & tuna and 2 salads. One salad provided by Anwars better half! 😊

Updates

  • Salvation Army - bell-ringing, Jack will be working out schedule some after noon slots are still available.

  • Board Meeting met earlier to discuss business. Report to follow – Golf event is a focus to secure our funding for project – all hands on deck

  • Dec 18:  Holiday Party - Wethersfield Country Club. Respond to Ceil ASAP

  • Special event: West Hartford Rotary club and join us on Monday, Dec. 16th at 12:15 at the Elizabeth Pond House in West Hartford, CT.  $22.00 and the entertainment is free. https://westhartfordrotary.org/events/2025-holdiay-lunch/

  • Todays speaker : Katie Krupa

  • Katie is a Gerontologis, has dedicated her entire career to serving older adults and their loved ones across New England. She is the Director of Placement and Aging Services with Assisted Living Locators as well as a Certified Aging Life Care Manager with “TUCKED IN” Eldercare. She talked about the aging problem facing our country and gave insight into resources that can be contacted to assist with care.

 

Caring moments:

  • Ruthie Sheenan- Pray for Ruthie as she has been admitted back to the hospital after being in rehab last week.
  • Sadley, Chickee Amberg’s sister passed away recently.
  • Alex reported he injured his knee so he’s been immobile since November.
