Today was another beautiful June day—
Mary Martin’s last “official” meeting! That is, until she gets
elected to the Presidency again!
Mike Kerrigan led us in a thoughtful invocation.
Lunch was the repeat of an earlier menu: roasted chicken legs, mixed vegetables, rice, tossed green salad, followed by apple pie and ice cream. This writer heard a few grumbles in the food line, and thought, a) you can’t expect great variety for a low price, and b) the meal would have been a true banquet for some hungry people in the world. For some reason the conversations around the tables seemed quieter than usual.

Richard Mozighetti, a former Rotarian who is now living or working closer to East Hartford; and
Tony Sweet, a proposed new member, who is a baseball player and is looking forward to our joint meeting with the Glastonbury Club. Who can possibly have any objections to his becoming a member of the East Hartford Club?

Sergeant-at-Arms Nick Cecere reported on “a good day.” Anniversaries: Mo Moshovos, Chuck Clarke and Dave Amberg. Ruth Sheehan paid because the Red Sox finally won a game—is that it for the season? And Mo paid for a birthday also. Larry Frazier paid $5 for all those who bought duck race tickets and did not win—he won $1,000! Sue Klock paid because her son and daughter presented her with flowers! She and Peter celebrated 48 years or marriage! Anwar Hossein paid because today marks the beginning of Ramadan, but he is not fasting! He asked for $5 worth of God’s forgiveness! Early leavers included Gil Wishart and Yvette Roming.. Susan Hansen paid because her daughter got married on Monday! Congratulations.
We were reminded that the Sergeant-at-Arms annual bash is July 15th, at the Ridge, beginning at 5:00 p.m. If memory serves correctly, guests are welcome.

Bob Buettner has had surgery, we hope minor, and that he heals quickly.
The sign-up sheet for invocations was being circulated—give it prayerful consideration. Consider donating dollars for the Kids back packs.
George Agnelli received a necktie—the pattern was yellow ducks—for selling the most tickets to the Duck Race. His lunch during July and August will be on the house.
Next Tuesday evening, at the Manchester Rotary Club meeting, there will be a donation for their water projects. Let our president know if you plan to attend.
Our Annual Banquet and Changing of the Guard is next Wednesday, June 24 at the Gallery in Glastonbury—6:00 p.m. starting time. No noon meeting.
Frank and Ceil Collins and Peter and Sue Klock attended the Rotary International Convention in Sao Paulo, Brazil. They will put their collective pictures together for a future presentation to the club. Frank has been to many, many conventions, has been in fifty-eight countries—he and Ceil have friends all around the world! Sao Paulo is a large city—twenty million people. There were over fourteen thousand Rotarians and guests in attendance at the convention—next year’s convention, in Korea, anticipates many more than that. One of the stories they brought back was about a woman who had a dream, and got a school built in a small town in Afghanistan. It has been so successful that now they want to construct a building to house a college. We can help. It would be the very first girls’ college in that Afghan village. Investigate the website:
