A nice warm sunny day, a Rotary day, but forecast to turn colder as the week progresses. Well, ‘tis the season, you know! Following a robust R-O-T-A-R-Y, and pledge to our beautiful flag,
Jack Martin had the honors as bestower of the weekly blessing. And then we stood in line again; our caterer seems to have gotten at least part of the message;
(no rice or broccoli on the menu). Instead, we faced a gauntlet of carrots, pasta, and some sausage & peppers. Well, that was a change. ‘twill be interesting to see what next week brings!
New member Wes Willett is now serving as official photographer; Dad Doug has left him the chore of “camera duty” while he and Diane are in Florida for the winter. Wes also was on hand for the water station duty last Saturday (but more on that later); and that’s the last time this writer will refer to him as “new member!”
Guests today were but two: co-speaker (with Mayor Marcia) Tony Ravosa, and President Marc Glass’ father-in-law, Lowell (Sonny) Waldo, (due to be a “new Member” in another week!) Ned Lynch and Alex Wisz provided leadership for the Welcome Song.
Sgt-At Arms Jack Sayer admitted to slim pickin’s on the collection front; a 26th wedding anniversary acknowledgement from Ned Lynch and a “just because” gift from Anwar Hossain.

Alex Wisz that Job Shadow day will soon be forth-coming, (expect “sign-ups” soon; probably late November or early December.)
Neil Cunningham, chair of the very successful water station for the Greater Hartford Marathon last Saturday, expressed thanks to all the water-giver-outers,
reading the list of the 20 or so hard-working Rotarians and their partners who volunteered.
George Schoen called a special meeting (next Wednesday at 11:30) of the Golf Committee for a Tournament rehash. Any interested Rotarians are welcome to attend.
President Marc reminded us of the Foundation Dinner on Nov. 5 at Chez Josef, followed by a Rotary Leadership Institute at the Mass Mutual center in Chicopee on Nov. 7. Questions on either of these events should be directed to him. While at the helm, he told of attending the first of our Fireside Chats. Watch that schedules, guys and gals; be there where and when you should!
Also a reminder, Ceil Collins told of our Holiday Party scheduled for Dec.16 at The Gallery in Glastonbury. We hope that’s on everyone’s calendar!
And then we were treated to Ned Lynch, perennially, pulling his own Lottery Ticket! Now I ask you, is that “fair to all concerned?”

Marcia Leclerc and developer
Tony Ravosa. In a fast-paced, yet interesting delivery, Mayor Marcia told of the developments she’s been responsible for making in our town, as well as challenges which she and the Town face as they move ahead in bringing about viable changes in our business districts, re-development of the Silver Lane corridor being chief among
them. She and Tony Ravosa shared in the presentation of gaming plans for the former Showcase Cinema property, including a casino and restaurants, describing the relative merits of that site, as compared to others being conjectured in Connecticut, as well as the casino presently under construction in the Springfield area. Lots of questions and answers followed; this is obviously a hot topic. A decision on the ultimate site-location can be expected on
Dec. 15. Though described as a last minute invitation, this scribe felt it was beneficial to include Mr. Ravosa in the presentation. He’s articulate and professional. Smart move, Mayor Marcia!
And once again, we enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow Rotarians; nice we could be together!
