Maybe this is called "seasonal" weather but methinks we've all had enough of it; it's overcast, drizzling, melting, with lots of puddles, and the size of our snow banks: awesome!
'Twas noisy inside the Ridge, but this came, after all, from lots of good fellowship. Mo Moshovos offered our thoughtful Invocation, we saluted our beautiful flag, and we went to the other room for the food lines. These included some tasty chicken piccata, carrots, rice and salad, with cookies for dessert (and we’re told we'll do this 60 per cent of the time!)
Guests today included Francisco Baires, from the Greater Hartford YMCA, Bill Duggan from Glastonbury (who told of a memorial service for good friend and longtime Rotarian John Dufford on Mar.28 at the So. Glastonbury Congregational Church ), Kevin Kickery, in the second week as a proposed member of our club, Ann Lavoie, from Enviroshred, and good ole friend Tom Galvin. Our Welcome song was faithfully and enthusiastically led by Tom and Alex Wisz.
Sgt-at-arms Dick McCarthy reported a whole batch of miscreants, namely: Susan Hansen (pic in paper); Nick Cecere who's off to Florida, but who gave us welcome greetings from Andy Andreo, understandingly "down" following the recent death of his dear wife; happy greetings for the floral gift from Bob Buettner; two birthday celebrations on behalf of himself and Neal Cunningham; a new grandfather, Jim Watts, celebrating the appearance of Colin; and lastly, the 80th birthday of PP Bob Wood!!! Susan Hansen told us of the upcoming World Water Day program at the library on Mar.22 from 1 to 4 pm. We were reminded of the Guatemalan clean Water project led by Manchester Rotarian Rick Lawrence. And next year's club prexy, Marc Glass, made an impassioned plea for all of us to respond to the proposed committee assignment mailings.
PP Jim Fallon gave a "show & tell" offering on the new scholarship form and program, an effort resulting from a lot of hard work on the part of the committee led by him and co-chair Larry Frazier. In what has now come as the weekly "no surprise," President Mary Martin pulled her own raffle ticket!
Our speaker today, introduced by Dan Larson and then ole friend Tom Galvin, was Jill Holmes-Brown, the charming boss of East Hartford's School Based Health Center. We've been blessed with hearing before of the good work being done by this outstanding organization. Identifying the dental and health needs of the largely needy kids of our town, children are seen and treated at school at no cost to their families. Wish all members of our club could have been there to hear this program. Thanks, Dan (and Tom, too) for bringing it to us!
