Noon—President Rob rang the big bell, calling us to some semblance of order. He led us in the pledge and Rotary’s 4-way test. Peter Klock delivered an inspiring invocation from a Nariva American author in Canada.
Thanks again to Guy we had an interesting mix of options for lunch. Two pizzas, a penne with chicken, and a green salad.
Anwar introduced Brett Weiss, who discussed his organization's work providing educational opportunities in Kenya. The foundation supports students from five communities, helping them attend high school, vocational school, and university. They currently have 281 students in their program, including 131 in high school, 46 in vocational schools, and 69 in university. The organization has produced 133 high school graduates, 34 vocational school graduates, and 8 university graduates so far. Brett highlights their success in improving educational outcomes, particularly for girls, and mentions their efforts to bring some students to study in the United States. He emphasizes the importance of giving students hope and how it has transformed their communities.
Rob thanked Brett for his excellent presentation
Then we moved on to the Catch the Ace of Spades game. The winning ticket was revealed, Marc Glass held it and mentioned that he would be in Chicago the following week.
The Paul Harris dinner was also discussed, with Rob asking for people to sign up and provide their food choices. Guy mentioned that the contract for the event had been signed and logistics were being discussed. Rob then opened the floor for caring moments, where members shared their personal experiences and concerns.
It was a great meeting. Especially to have Rob back in person!
