Sunny and warm weather at Goodwin for our Rotary Meeting today. Attendees were Jack, Ceil, George, Dan, Hope, Bob, Anwar, Guy, Marc, Charlie, George, Jim and Neal. President Rob joined us via Zoom.
Our guests today and prospective new members were Tiffany Robinson, a BioMed Engineer and Vera Sacks, a Holistic Health Practioner. Another prospective new member, Josh Baker, who we introduced last week, was ill today and could not attend.
Marc rang the bell at 12 Noon and Rob called the meeting to order. Rob led the Pledge of Allegiance and Four Way Test. Anwar gave the invocation about brotherhood and respect for everyone.
Lunch from First & Last was chicken, pasta and pizza.
Program
Jason Davis, a fellow Rotarian, gave a very interesting Zoom presentation on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it can benefit Rotary. He began with the origins of this software in the 1950’s and enhancements since that time. AI could be very beneficial for Rotary based repetitive tasks such as minutes, club communications, agendas, event planning, marketing, community needs assessments and summarizing survey data. Jason suggested getting started with a software such as ChatGPT or CoPilot. Set up an account and start small using free software. He advised us to be careful with personal data and always keep a human in the process! Next step is experimenting with the software and sharing results with the club.
Upcoming Events
- Our Foodshare volunteer event is March 17, 12:30 pm. Call Anwar if you would like to participate.
- Paul Harris Dinner is April 23 at Maneeley's in South Windsor. $60 per person with a cash bar. Let Ceil know if you will be attending.
- "Day of Service" is scheduled for May 13. Check their website for possible events for us.
- Our Golf Tournament is June 16 this year. Hole in One prize as well as a 50/50 Raffle. Target is $25,000.
- Hope and Dan Firestone are coordinating a Rotary Event for several upcoming presentations at the Playhouse on Park in West Hartford. We need eight attendees for a 10% discount. The first play is The Irish...And How They Got That Way on Saturday, March 29. Regular tickets are $45. This is followed by a Comedy Show on May 17, $20 per ticket. The Baroness is playing from June 5-22 which is also a comedy. Please call Hope and Dan, 860-930-3476, if you are interested in attending.
- Our Raffle pot continues to grow. Anwar won Pull 2 but no big winner. Neal and Bob won the Trivia Game.
