Today could be described as an ideal late Fall day- bright, sunny, and on the cool side.  Almost (but not quite) a day to enjoy on the golf course.  If it were April, the course would be full! Inside the foyer Dan Firestone was giving a lesson on how to be a treasurer to George Schoen who will be assuming Dan’s position come the first of the year.  Thanks Dan, for your expertise on all things relating to the financial side of the Rotary experience.  As usual, the raffle and the floral arrangement, and Sgt. at Arms Jim Watts, were readily available to extract the last dollar from one’s wallet prior to the normal pocketing of said accessory.

Rosemary Proves Impossible to Overlook

President Kevin called us together for the usual song and Pledge, and then continued to deliver today’s Invocation.  As a last-ditch replacement Kevin “Googled” the internet for appropriate words of wisdom to deliver to his flock.  He came upon an 1863 Poem written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.  In this poem Longfellow comes up with a most simple truth which should be the watchword of all faiths “Peace on Earth and Good Will to All”. Wouldn’t it be great if this were the prevailing thought throughout Today’s unsettled World!  After those thoughts we were released to contemplate a buffet table replete with mashed potatoes, pasta, mixed vegetables, meatballs in red sauce, chicken breast smothered in gravy, rolls, and a hearty salad with TWO types of dressing! Wow!!!  Dessert was a less than stellar arrangement of sugar and chocolate chip cookies!

Calling us back together, this time without an agenda, Kevin started right off with a shotgun approach to meaningful announcements.  It should be noted at this time that our only guest, Rosemary Hogan was overlooked, only to be noticed by an alert Dan Larson who took it upon himself to introduce Neal’s bride and lead the Welcome Song.  Dan, thanks for having Kevin’s back.  So much about an agenda or lack thereof!

Rotarian Elves Do Some Shopping

Getting back to the announcements – Bill Doak will carry any publicity or announcements we submit to the Weekly Gazette, Larry Hangland and his committee will work on this offer.  Anwar has arranged for another Workday at Foodshare for February 2nd.  Call him if you are interested in helping.  Jack Sayre talked about Bell Ringing and is short for two hours (4-5 and 5-6) this coming Saturday.  He needs all members to do their part if this is to be a continuing project.  Call him and volunteer for the two openings!  Do your Part!!!!

Steve Jacoby spoke of the East of the River Chamber and it is adding another community to its membership.  They currently have 650 members and Steve and the membership committee will try and come up with some ideas to make EH Rotarians out of some of them.

Continuing, Anwar mentioned that all purchases made on Amazon could reap a ½ percent windfall to the EH Rotary Club.  By signing in through Amazon – Smile and listing us as a charity we could benefit at no extra costs to the purchaser.  Check with him for further details.

Neal Cunningham thanked the 5 Elves who shopped for our Christmas Families – Marc Glass, Ned Lynch, Kevin Kickery, Bob Buettner, and Bill Saunders.  Special thanks to wife, Rosemary, who coordinated sizes, needs, and wishes of these families.

Kevin announced that we made a $200 Donation to the EH Holiday Fest.  He also noted that almost $5000 has come in in Memory of George Agnelli.  He will meet with family after the Holidays to come up with suggestions for its use.  Ceil shared a note from the Lion’s Club asking for our help in supplying toys for students at Norris School.  Toys for Tots did not supply enough toys for the Norris students.  They are about150 short.  Kevin asked us, if we could, to bring in an unwrapped toy next week to help.
