Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling

From glen to glen, and down the mountain side

The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.

Sunny, windy day up at the Ridge – perfect spring day.

President Kevin rang our baby bell promptly at 12:15. The group’s rendition of R-O-T-A-R-Y was indescribable, but we got through it.  After the pledge, Marc Glass invoked inspiration for the Phillies and asked us to take a couple of minutes to ponder ourselves.

Mrs. Lynch from the kitchen, "Is that you I hear spitting in the vase on the mantle?" "No," said Ned, "but I'm getting closer."

Lunch today was a soup and sandwich combo with lots of choices.  Folks at my table especially appreciated the soups, which were as varied as carrot-ginger, lemon, chicken and orzo, minestrone and cream of broccoli.  For dessert, our favorite server, Ned Lynch, passed a platter of large cookies, chocolate, chip, peanut butter and sugar cookies.

Our formal meeting began at 12:40 with the introduction of guests:  Bob Bentley, whose occupation is electronics and installing security systems, is a member of the Rotary Club of Glastonbury.  Past District Governor Prasad Menon is a member of the Rotary Club of Simsbury-Granby.  Randi Saboski, our Assistant Governor for Area 6, is a member of the Rotary Club of Rockville.  Art Bradbury and George Schoen led us in the welcome song.

Caring moments included mention of Dave Amberg at home until Friday, Jim Fallon continuing to undergo radiation and chemo in Houston, and Wes Willett and Jack Martin who are “under the weather.”

McCarthy went to trial for armed robbery. "Not Guilty!" was the verdict. "That's great,"shouted Dick. "Does that mean I can keep the money?"
Kevin reported on last night’s board meeting held at his home.  Sue Klock attended to update the board on some changes in the District Grant policies and reassured the group that with four of our club members attending the online grants webinar, we are qualified to apply for a grant.  Dave Amberg is arranging for us to help on a Habitat for Humanity project and will soon let us know dates, which will probably be in late summer or early fall.

The game night at Bill Sanders’ clubhouse is scheduled for April 27th, and the board agreed to cover the costs of a casual dinner, soda, beer and wine.

Ned Lynch says our block of 20 seats for the Yard Goats game on May29th is filled, but if anyone wants to go, please contact him as soon as possible.  Reservations should be accompanied by payment.   Contact Ned by email at ned.lynch@jan-pro.com     or by calling Ned’s cell phone 508-341-4106 to reserve your seats and to arrange getting your payment to him.

Kevin reminded us to save the date for our club’s installation celebration, which will be Wednesday, June 26th at The Gallery.

Spring Raffle -- Neal Cunningham, chair of our spring raffle committee, spoke briefly about the importance of this being a success.  Tickets were distributed during our club meeting today.

Sergeant-at-Arms Dick McCarthy, filling in for ailing Jack Martin, mentioned President Kevin had contributed to acknowledge his wife Sue is down in New York helping with their new grandchild.  Dan Firestone paid to celebrate the approach of April 15th (tax day).  As usual there were contributions for various sports teams, including the UConn Huskie women heading to the Final 4 which begins this Friday.

Cunningham tells Larson that his wife drives him to drink. Larson thinks he's lucky because his own wife makes him walk.

Then, what we have been eagerly awaiting for several weeks, Dan Larson approached the podium to fulfill his obligation to sing  “Oh Danny Boy” requested and paid for by Larry Hangland and Neal Cunningham at a prior meeting.  Dan had left on all our tables copies of information he found online about the person credited with writing the song, Frederic Weatherly.  Sorry if you missed the meeting, but you can see where Dan found this information at

https://www.connollycove.com/danny-boy-song-lyrics-history-what-oh-danny-boy-is-about/

What you really missed was Dan singing the song for us.  He’s a club treasure!

Regular raffle was won by Dan Russell.

PDG Prasad Menon spoke to us about the Hartford Youth Scholar Program.  Our club was one of five clubs who contributed to help the program purchase computer tablets for their newest group of student scholars.

AG Randi Saboski was at our meeting to remind us of the importance of attending the District Training Assembly and the District Conference.

Our meeting wound up about 1:20 PM.
