Hot and humid today. Thanks to Goodwin University for providing us a great space with air conditioning and connectivity. Fourteen of us were present today. No guests today. Alex and Bill joined remotely. Our eagle eye President Rob spotted Alex’s facial change to which our Humor-in-Chief, Marc, commented that Alex painted the mustache on his face. Alex, have faith. It will grow.
President Rob rang the bell exactly at noon. Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the reading of 4-way test and then on to the invocation by Sue. The message of love, inclusion, care for our environment and peace through diversity deserved our serious reflections.
The next agenda item was lining up for lunch which came ahead of time. Thanks to Guy for his perseverance for making sure we get an excellent lunch and on time. The choices were pastrami and tuna grinders in addition to two kinds of pizzas, two salad selections and thanks to Ceil for the ice cream.
Charles was in charge of selling raffle tickets. In case you missed it, here are the pertinent details:
Traditional raffle with a progressive Jackpot
Each week you can buy raffle tickets:
- 1 ticket for $2
- 3 tickets for $5
- 10 tickets for $10
- 40 tickets for $20
A winning number will be drawn; the winner of the raffle will get an opportunity to pick a card. If the Ace of Spades is not chosen, then that card will be removed from the deck, and the money stays in the pot increasing the next week's chances.
If the Ace of Spades is chosen, the money is split 50-50 with the member and the club.
Sue had the winning ticket but failed to pick Ace of Spades.
After lunch, President Rob played a video depicting the perception and reality of Rotary in the general public. The humor in the video makes it all the more relevant for promoting Rotary to the community at large. Here is the link in case the lunch was more interesting than the video. https://youtu.be/coqag4TufB0?si=YFtblsVx0ZFmPF8D
Trivia theme today was things related to summer such as SPF, the state with the hottest average temperature, birthstone for July, how many days it takes for watermelon to grow and when the modern summer Olympics started. Charles, Guy and George were the winners who were allowed to reach into the grab bag for their surprise gifts that according to Marc came from Ceil’s basement.
