I guess for December 9th today was an OK day - slightly overcast and a mild temperature of about 45.  No snow, no rain so that's a big plus.  The group gathered rather slowly today but by 12:15 we had a good crowd.  A couple of extra tables were set up to accommodate the 12 members of The East Hartford High School Chamber Singers who would provide today's program.  President Marc called us together with the usual opening routine and was followed by a thoughtful Invocation from Bob Buettner.  The student guests were invited to lead the charge to the usual buffet table.  Today's feast regressed back to the rice and steamed broccoli era, but was enhanced by a tasty Chicken Marsala and salad.  Dessert was a seasonal warm apple crisp and vanilla ice cream.

 

After lunch we reconvened with the introduction of Gerson DaSilva, a Glastonbury Rotarian.  Departing from custom, President Marc asked all Rotarians to stand and sing the Welcome Song. As Mark stated, it was sung in about 13 different keys! 

 

Next on the agenda, doing double duty was Sgt. at Arms Bob Buettner.  He had a relatively good day with Bill Saunders paying for an anniversary, Alex Wisz for having his daughter home for the holidays, Dan Larson for a birthday and a serenade from the Choral group, Jack Martin for disrespect, Mary Martin for early departure, Michael Kerrigan for no pin, Nick Cecere for his two daughter's birthdays, and finally, George Agnelli for being late.  Jack Sayre said the Bell Ringing is filled up. Ceil Collins said we have until Friday to sign up for the Holiday party.  Give her a call if you haven't yet signed up, and bring a check if you haven't paid!!!  Raffle was won by Wes Willett. Kevin Kickery had a makeup in Newington.

 

Important dates -12/16 - no noon meeting - Holiday gathering 6:00 p.m. at the Gallery, 12/23 - noon meeting at the Ridge, 12/30 -11:30 Wine and Cheese followed by the Annual Meeting and election of officers.

 

Dan Firestone introduced Nick Diaz, leader of the Chamber Singers.  The first selections were from a repertoire prepared for the upcoming Winter Concert.  The first to be sung was our National Anthem, followed by "When I Fall in Love", and finally a French classic from the 1500's about gossiping women!  (Do times change?) Next, two seasonal tunes - “Jingle Bells" and "Deck the Halls"!  Thus ended an abbreviated choral program.

 

Of Note - Dan Firestone is missing a black collapsible umbrella mistakenly taken after the Pot Luck dinner at the Russell's.  Check to see if you might have taken it!
