This was the fourth Wednesday of the month. Following protocol for the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, we met via zoom and had a guest speaker.
Laura led us with the recitation of the Pledge followed by Dan Firestone who did the invocation. The theme was community service, fairness, common good and acting wisely as Rotarians.
Moment of Silence for War Victims
President Sue asked us to join in a moment for silence for the people of Eastern Europe. The human suffering has crossed the geographic border of Ukraine. She then recited the 4-Way Test.
Your scribe introduced Sue Gouin, Program Director at the East Hartford Senior Center. We learned that it has 1,200 members, many of them Veterans, and is managed by four paid employees and eighty active volunteers.
The Center offers a wide range of services and activities such as lunches, special occasion meals, educational programs, health screenings, fitness/wellness programs, arts & crafts, technology services, games and a variety of entertainment activities. For more information, go to the website or contact Susan Gouin. It is a beautiful state-of-the-art building.
McCarthy Gets Jump on Golf Sponsors
Bob Buettner indicated that Dick McCarthy, despite his health setbacks, has volunteered to provide donuts and has signed up three co-sponsors for the upcoming golf tournament. Bob indicated that the Golf Committee is making good progress in getting the various pieces together for the event.
There will be no noontime meeting next Wednesday. Instead, the Paul Harris Recognition Dinner will be held that evening at the Wethersfield Country Club located at 76 Country Club Road. You will get to share the honoring of the three award recipients and two new members along with their sponsors. Jim Watts added that cash bar service will be available for the event. The deadline for making reservations is tomorrow. Contact Ceil for additional details.
One of the agenda items at the next Board meeting will be to discuss if our club wants a table at the Memorial Day Town Sponsored Event.
Your scribe will be in LA to visit his grandchildren and therefore will miss the dinner. Sue has graciously accepted to do the HG next Wednesday. Thanks, Sue.
Signing off for this month, your scribe, Anwar Hossain
