What could be more lovely than a beautiful day in June?  Today was one of the best ever!  Jay Stewart shared a gracious and thoughtful invocation with us.  Lunch, for a new twist, was served to us—we didn’t have to line up!  Tossed salad, salmon fillet, mashed potatoes, mixed roasted vegetables, followed by cheesecake with strawberry sauce comprised the menu.

 

Attendance was down today—there were only about thirty of us, which meant that many tables had empty spaces.  And we had a number of guests:  Wes Willett, son of Doug, who apparently aspires to be a Rotarian; Nevily Ward, Patrick Kinnery, Oliva Henta and Jessica Leray. It seems that at least two of the ladies are also interested in becoming Rotarians!  George Schoen and Bob Wood lead us in the Welcome Song.

 

Nick Cecere was again our Sergeant-at-Arms.  Jay Stewart paid for two family weddings: a grandson in Biddeford, Maine, and a Granddaughter in Middletown, Connecticut. Alex Wicz paid because he’s happy that the Duck Race is almost over!  George Schoen had no pin and Gil Wishart had no badge.  Ruth Sheehan paid for a birthday and an anniversary—we sang!  Dan Russell paid for a birthday in February while he was in Florida. Kevin Kickery paid to leave early, Dan Firestone paid for being late, and Carol (Krause) Little sends her best to us, noting that Helen had retired and is doing well.  And finally, Mark Glass asked if we should send a little candle light over to the lovely couple at the back table—this reporter, from his seat, could not see who they were.

 

Caring moments:  we’re glad Dan Larson is out of the hospital.  Fred Campbell is apparently not doing well.

 

President Mary read a delightful letter of thanks from one of our scholarship winners who will be attending Penn State.  We have access to Rotary Information Booklets for anyone who might be interested in joining us. Mark has new “slogan” pins for the upcoming year.  Wear them with pride.  And Jack Sayre has been contacted regarding our “Back to School” program.  Last year we helped 180 kids with back packs, supplies and such.  We can make contributions next week, and the monies collected will be turned over to the town’s Social Services Department.

 

The weekly raffle was won by Dan Russell.

 

Short Program:  Alex Wicz went over the logistics of the Duck Race which is next Sunday, according to my calendar.  He asked helpers to meet at the Ridge about 8:00 in the morning, pack up all the stuff, get it to the river, (Walnut Street Bridge) set everything up there, make sure the river is clear for the entire route, and then, at the appointed hour, watch the ducks being dropped into the water.  Many thanks to Peggy Schoen who has entered all the logistics—names, addresses, and phone numbers against the ticket/duck numbers—into the race records.
