“May your hands always be busy,  may your feet always be swift, may you have a strong foundation, when the winds of changes shift”  Bob Dylan, Forever Young.

I spent the ride up today listening to the great Bob Dylan, always a rewarding use of my time. It’s hard to decide if he is a better poet than he is a musician. In any case he is an American treasure.
"Best Dessert I've ever had!"
We had a modest crowd today, although all the really cool kids were there. George Schoen led the invocation, Peter Klock introduced our lone guest, Jason Primus, who grew up in Manchester and now teaches English as a Second Language in South Korea, back for a brief visit to the States.

The buffet consisted of sausage and peppers, ziti, carrots and salad. Dessert was a “Seesaw Caramel Cake” which led one member to observe, through frosting covered lips, “best dessert I’ve ever had.”

It was so good, I caught the building staff absconding with a couple of pieces on my way out the back door.
Kerrigan's celebrate 20th aniversary
Dave Amberg continued his stint as Sergeant At Arms and reported a low key collection this day.

Bob Buettner saluted the end of the heat wave; Susan Hansen recognized Gil Wishart’s birthday; Mike Kerrigan celebrated his 20th Wedding Anniversary; Christina Lessard paid to acknowledge her absence from our company this summer; Bill Saunders paid for a flat tire on the way to the meeting; George Schoen is feeling good about the Red Sox; and Jay Stewart recognized the District Governor’s Visit last week and the YMCA Summer Camp experience – no washing required.
Word of the day is "push"
President Bill had a number of announcements today:
  • Board meeting next Monday, August 22, 5:30 at the YMCA.
  •
  • Kevin Liner will be presenting his report on Rwanda Trip on August 31th.
  •
  • Received a text from Nick George, a Rotarian in Hudson Falls, N.Y. whose daughter has taken a position with the Hartford Stage Company. She is looking for housing suggestions. He can be reached at NICK@KINETICSSYMMETRY.COM or at 518-926-8688.
  •
  • The Memorial Service for Tony Picano will be on Friday, August 26th at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in East Hartford.
  •
  • The Board has agreed to donate $2,000 to Friends of Center Cemetery for restoration of tomb stones. Art Bradbury will be doing recordings describing the lives of three of the early religious leaders of the town who were instrumental in the area’s growth.
  •
  • Marc Glass talked about the Satellite Club which will hold its first meeting on September 15th  at Savvis Restaurant at 1555 Main Street at 6:00 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend.
  •
  • Neal Cunningham reported that the Back to School collection netted a total of $391.00 for school supplies, a generous result.
  •
  • George Schoen’s word of the day was “push,” push for golfers, push for raffle prizes, push for sponsors, push for restaurant gift certificates, just push. Speaking of pushing, George announced that Yvette Roming will be helping out with the raffle despite her new mom duties. The Committee will meet next Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
  •
  • Jim Fallon gave a brief report on the progress of the Scholarship winners in getting their checks from the Club. Four winners have submitted the needed paperwork, two to go.
  •
  • Peter Klock reported that Nigeria has two reported cases of Polio recently and the battle continues.
George Schoen won the raffle and was all smiles about it.

No program today so President Bill rang the bell and we disbursed. Janis Joplin is on deck for the road home.
