Food Insecurity
Jan. 12, 2022
My bio: Brittney Cavaliere is the program manager at the Connecticut Foodshare Institute for Hunger Research & Solutions. In her role, Brittney is responsible for overseeing many of the day-to-day operations of the Institute, managing various projects, and conducting research to promote long-term food security, health, and well-being. Brittney’s experiences working with people with HIV in the beginning of her career fuels her passion for a more equitable America where everyone can thrive. She received a Master of Public Health from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Fordham University. In her free time, you can find Brittney volunteering in her hometown of East Hartford, CT, on a hike with her puppy Scout, or at a new bookstore finding her next read.
Description of presentation: It Takes More Than Food Food insecurity is rooted in poverty and systemic injustices. To create long-term solutions, we know it takes more than food to end hunger. Brittney will talk about ways food banks and pantries across the country are working to not only meet the need of people experiencing food insecurity today, but addressing the root causes of hunger at the individual level to make sure there is not a need tomorrow. |

Empowering Women
Jun. 08, 2022
Deidra recommended her as a guest speaker and provided the following introduction: I am connecting you with Diane Bailey, the Director of the CT chapter of Miss Amazing. She would love to be a speaker at one of our rotary meetings in the future. I sit on this board as their treasurer. This fits in with our theme of empowering women and some of the girls in the chapter were helping to pack feminine hygiene care packages with me yesterday for one of their service projects.
I met her daughter Chelsea Bailey through National Night Out here in East Hartford and Chelsea has worked with me at Bakery On Main in the past. |
