The first meeting of in-coming President Sue Klock’s administration began with the usual 15 minutes of casual conversation while our group took its time to assemble. Your scribe signed on just as Sue rang the bell, so the content of the casual banter is a mystery.

"Rotary's masterpiece is the Foundation"
Past President Bob Buettner led us in the Pledge and Laura Floyd offered a thoughtful invocation. President Sue prefaced a recitation of the Four Way Test with a loose quote from Mahatma Gandhi, “Keeping things we think, say or do in harmony is the way to happiness.” Sue reminded us that when we recite the Four-Way Test, we begin with “Of the things we think say or do.” A nicely drawn connection.

Under Caring Moments, George reported that Bob Wood had a fall and was in the hospital with minor injuries. Later in the meeting we learned he will be returning home on Thursday. Also mentioned was that Charlotte Bradbury is doing “pretty good” at home.

Following that, President Sue mentioned the importance of the Rotary Foundation and the good it accomplishes in the world.

She read a quote from Paulo Costa, Past President of Rotary International, 1990-1991.
"Rotary International's masterpiece is The Rotary Foundation.  It transforms our dreams into splendid realities....it is the most generous expression of Rotarian generosity - a generosity that not only brings benefits but also brings help and cooperation to solve the problems that affect mankind.  The Rotary Foundation achieves the best that mankind can possibly achieve."
Literacy Project major focus in 2021-2022
This week’s announcements:

Deidre Stolte is proceeding to Rotary Information session and will be an official member of the Club shortly thereafter.

George Schoen reported that the Golf Committee is proceeding apace. It has completed the sponsor letter and will be distribution it to sponsors from previous years soon. It has also revised the registration form and set the greens fee at $150. George pointed out that we make most of our profit on sponsorships and the raffle. There will another committee meeting in two weeks.

Sue reported on this week’s Board meeting, including approval of our charitable budget (it is approved but can be adjusted during the year depending on success of our fundraising efforts and possible additional requests from community groups)

The new District Governor wants to encourage environmental efforts this year and is asking each club to plant two trees during her term.

The Board plans to have the Club participate in a literacy project this year with the school system. This “diversity, equity, and inclusion” project will be funded to the sum of $10,000 with the District Foundation contributing $3,000, EHRC adding $2,000 and the Larson Family Foundation $5,000. This Focus on Literacy Project will be directed at 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.  We will also be resurrecting our Dictionary Project which provides a dictionary to every 3rd grader.

The Board established a task force to investigate possible places to have in-person meetings going forward.  Idea will be to have everyone who wants to participate, join, and make suggestions.  Alex Wisz, our president-elect, will head this effort.  If you would like to help Alex with this task, contact him at aewRotary@gmail.com.

Declare committee preferences next week
Next week we will be reviewing the new committee structure and all members will be asked to declare which committees they would like to participate in. Be prepared
