What a difference a day makes! Tuesday a Northeaster with lots of snow for some of us. Today relatively blue skies and warmer temps. The roads were clear and dry.
Question, why only 29 people present including 3 guests? The group present was lively with all sorts of conversations going on, ranging from the weather (next storm coming on Tuesday) to Kevin Ollie to the baseball season.
Following the Pledge and remarks , we went to a buffet of mashed potatoes , meatloaf , string beans and salad and rolls. I think dessert was cornbread(?) We had two late comers. Guess which two.
We have one new member application from James Tucker of Gengras Motors, and a guest, Jairo Lemos, who has been looking at the club for several weeks and is interested. There was also a guest from Glastonbury Rotary.
The Mystery Ride is scheduled for Saturday, June 2. Hope Firestone has put together another exciting .adventure. If you made last year’s event, no need to tell you how good it was. Sgt. at Arms George Schoen was a happy camper today. He done good. Bob Wood paid his age to the Scholarship Fund, Neal Cunningham paid his age to get to sing to him. Marc is still paying for the Eagles. A bunch paid for the little snow or the big snow depending on where you lived.
Marc Glass gave a very, very short report on PETS.
Nate Quesnel gave a brief report on the Student Walkout in memory of the Parkland Victims. The kids were responsible and well mannered, and conducted the event with dignity and respect. Some 1500 High School student took part.
We had several speakers on related subjects. Clair Neuman from EHHS gave a power point presentation on C Pen Readers. This is a great tool to aid those students with reading and comprehension problems. Use of his tool has shown a great improvement in reading skills for these kids. EH Rotary last year helped with the purchase of these C Pens.
Then we had a speaker from Synergy talk about the schools teaming with MCC in their Culinary Arts program. Last year 6 out of 7 participants in this program did it successfully This program gives the students college credits while in high school. For many they are first generation college students. The program is uplifting and confidence building and enables the individual to get ahead.
Oh, by the way Ceil won the raffle AGAIN.
That's all folks. See you next Wednesday, weather permitting.
